H.E. Janice Miller, High Commissioner for Jamaica to Canada, assumed duties in Ottawa in October 2014.

 

A career foreign service officer, Mrs. Miller joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade in 1996.  During her career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, she served as the Acting Under Secretary in the Multilateral Affairs Division and has held the posts of   Director and Assistant Director of the Economic Affairs Department.    

 

She was one of the Deputy Permanent Representatives of the Permanent Mission of Jamaica to the International Seabed Authority which is headquartered in Kingston. She has also sat on the Board of the Maritime Authority of Jamaica.


Mrs. Miller’s previous diplomatic posting was to the Permanent Mission of Jamaica to the United Nations where she was the Counsellor responsible for Political Affairs. 

 

She is a graduate of the University of the West Indies (Mona and St. Augustine) where she completed undergraduate and postgraduate studies in history, politics and international relations.  She is versed in French and Spanish and has been the beneficiary of a number of scholarships and awards including a Chevening scholarship which allowed her to complete a postgraduate Foreign Service programme at Oxford University. 

 

She is married to Donald Miller and they have two daughters, Rachel and Rianna.
